ChargePoint is creating the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network to power the transition to an electric future. Since its inception in 2007, ChargePoint has been committed to making it easy for businesses and drivers to go electric, with one of the largest EV charging networks globally. ChargePoint’s comprehensive portfolio includes a cloud-based platform and a wide range of charging solutions designed for work, public places, and commercial fleets. ChargePoint customers have access to hundreds of thousands of charging spots in North America and Europe.

ChargePoint has announced two new innovations designed to tackle the growing issue of charger vandalism: a cutting-edge cut-resistant charging cable and ChargePoint Protect, a state-of-the-art alarm system that enhances the security of charging stations.

Introducing the

Cut-Resistant Charging Cable

ChargePoint’s new cut-resistant cable is the first of its kind in the industry, aimed at preventing theft and damage. Building on its extensive experience of over 15 years in charging technology and product design, ChargePoint has developed this cable with advanced materials that are tough to cut, making it significantly more resistant to tampering.

At the same time, the cable remains flexible and easy for users to handle, ensuring ease of use while preventing damage caused by vandalism. ChargePoint plans to offer these cables across its commercial and fleet charging stations, helping reduce cable theft and vandalism on a larger scale. ChargePoint expects to make the cut-resistant cables available for licensing by mid-2025, providing an industry-leading solution to these common issues.

ChargePoint Protect: Enhancing Charging Station Security

ChargePoint also introduces ChargePoint Protect, an integrated alarm system designed to further secure charging stations. ChargePoint Protect uses the existing features of ChargePoint chargers—such as speakers, screens, and lighting systems—to form an advanced and effective alarm system.

This system can detect tampering with charging cables in real-time, triggering an alarm that aims to deter vandals and protect the charging infrastructure. In the event of an alarm, ChargePoint customers will receive real-time notifications via text or email, enabling faster response times and allowing station owners to alert law enforcement as needed. ChargePoint Protect is expected to roll out later this month.

Commitment to a Reliable Charging Network

ChargePoint Protect and our new cut-resistant cables, we are further demonstrating our unwavering commitment to creating a reliable and secure charging network. Rather than being passive victims of vandalism, we are taking proactive steps to address the issue. Our goal is to eliminate charger reliability concerns that may hinder the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.

ChargePoint believes that these new security measures will benefit both charging station owners—by reducing repair and maintenance costs due to vandalism—and EV drivers, ensuring they can depend on charging stations to be operational when needed.
